“As a diplomat, fostering understanding by bringing people together in common purpose lies at the heart of my work.
‘The Volcano Project’ not only forged closer ties between the people of the Azores and the United States,
it enriched all who experienced your works of art.”
~Gavin Sundwall, U.S. State Department
Akin to performance art, ongoing and spanning multiple decades, the narrative and visuals of the Volcano Project radically explore the creative process amidst life challenges. The ensemble comprises over 70 visual pieces – paintings, sculptures, drawings – as well as a novel, La Faille/The Fault. It was first installed in Portugal, then at the Boston State House, and awarded First Prize and People’s Choice at the 2025 Chelsea Apollinaire Festival. In 2026, elements of the project are presented as part of a site-specific installation for an innovative concert, programmed by A Far Cry around themes of love in all its forms, on Jordan Hall’s stage, Boston.
