Sculpture

“The drawings and sculptures, both of darkness and of light, lend poetic richness and depth to this exhibition.
She evokes perpetual movement and rhythm in a thunderous roar.”

~Rosemary Noon, Curator, Loeb Fellow, Harvard University School of Design

The few Volcano sculptures again defy typical processes used for three-dimensional works. Arveil combines basalt stones, brought back from walks in volcanic fields, with deconstructing her painting grounds. The canvas and gesso which coat the wood panels of the paintings are, in the sculptures, returned to their flexible forms, and shaped before drying. The process takes influence from Arveil’s early work in building theatre sets.
